With its multi-center clinical study, Alafair Biosciences hopes to evaluate the effectiveness of its VersaWrap® Hydrogel Sheet in improving outcomes for Achilles tendon repair surgeries. The study is named B.R.A.A.D., which stands for ‘Better Recovery, Hyaluronic Acid and Alginate Device.’
Alafair Biosciences’ research will assess whether this bioresorbable implant can reduce common postoperative complications like tendon tethering and scar tissue formation, which often lead to restricted mobility and additional surgeries. The first patient has been enrolled at UC Davis Foot and Ankle Orthopaedics Clinic, marking the beginning of data collection across multiple U.S. sites.
The VersaWrap® Hydrogel Sheet boasts a unique composition of hyaluronic acid and alginate, which forms a protective barrier around tendons. It can potentially enhance tissue gliding and minimize adhesions during healing.
