Costco Wholesale (COST) is alerting members that it sold power banks that could contain faulty lithium-ion battery cells.
In a letter posted recently on Costco’s site, Anker Innovations said its power bank model A1257 contained the potentially faulty cells. “While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, we have decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several power bank models,” Anker wrote. (Models A1647, A1652, A1681, and A1689 also have been recalled, according to Anker’s website.)
Customers can visit Anker’s site for more information and to learn how to get a replacement device and safely dispose of the recalled equipment, the company said.
Recalled Power-Bank Batteries May Overheat
Costco and Anker also said in June that another Anker power bank, sold between June 1, 2016, and Dec. 31, 2022, was recalled. “The lithium-ion battery in these power banks may overheat, posing a potential fire safety risk. This could lead to melting of plastic components, smoke, or fire,” Anker wrote, referring customers to its web site for more details.
Other items stocked by Costco that recently have been recalled include:
- Danby’s U-Shape window air conditioner units, which may not drain water quickly enough to prevent mold, according to the supplier, Midea America Corp.
- Midea U-Shape window air conditioner units, which present similar concerns, according to a letter from Midea stating: “Mold exposure poses risks of respiratory issues or other infections to some consumers.”
- Michelin Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires, size 185/60R15C, which the maker said don’t meet one of the Federal Motor Vehicle safety standards related to tire endurance.
- Bridgestone Blizzak 6 tires, size 235/40R2019, which don’t bear a symbol now required by the Federal Motor Vehicle standards, but comply with their performance requirements, Bridgestone said.
- BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells, which could have weight plates come off the handle while in use, BowFlex owner Johnson Health Tech Trading said.
