Model Practice has successfully transformed a compact 900-square-foot space in Manhattan’s historic Garment District into Lifted Lid, the flagship location for Korean fast-casual concept Sopo. The execution of this project was recognized with the prestigious Architizer 2025 A+Awards.

Model Practice’s design approach ingeniously reinterprets the traditional Korean dosirak lunchbox through architectural elements, featuring a suspended sculptural box that organizes the restaurant’s functional zones. The studio was also conscious of mitigating multiple urban challenges, as well. It installed acoustic management using specialized plaster to mitigate street noise, for example.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate fast-casual dining and create an intimate oasis that contrasts with the neighborhood’s bustle. The Korean fast-casual concept Sopo is also noteworthy as it presents the culinary expertise of Chef Dennis Hong.
