London design firms Wet Studio and Studio Popelo work in collaboration on La Camionera bar in Hackney. It is a lesbian bar named after a Spanish slang term. The space was co-founded by Alex Loveless, Clodagh Ferrelly, and Clara Solis. According to the team, La Camionera is the only FLINTA lesbian bar in London, which stands for ‘female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender.’
The team explains, “The project was intentionally queer-led from start to finish. Designers, contractors, artists and makers all came from within the community, bringing a shared sense of purpose to the process.” Wet Studio and Studio Popelo add, “La Camionera reinterprets the traditional Mediterranean bar through a contemporary London lens. The brief called for atmosphere over imitation – capturing tactile warmth and relaxed ritual without slipping into nostalgia.”
