Kraft Heinz Recalls Oscar Meyer Turkey Bacon on Possible Listeria Contamination

Shares of Kraft Heinz (KHC) slipped 1.5% Thursday, a day after the food giant recalled nearly 368,000 pounds of turkey bacon because of the potential of listeria contamination.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service said the fully cooked turkey bacon was sold from April 24 through June 11, and shipped to various retail outlets in the U.S. Some was also exported to the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. The products affected are 12-, 36-, and 48-ounce packages of “Oscar Mayer Turkey BACON ORIGINAL.”

Listeria causes flu-like symptoms and can be fatal to the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. 

The USDA noted that it has had no reports of adverse reaction from those who have eaten the products. It warned consumers who have the turkey bacon to throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Kraft Heinz shares have lost about 13% year-to-date.
