Nice to see you on board. 100% TSLA down 12 out of last 14 weeks! YES!! Def a dramatic round trip of post-election gains! Will TSLA become more a cyclical, boom-and-bust stock going forward? What were Matt’s tickers UBER, DASH, GE, NFLX, SPOT, RKT Can I get a snap shot Matthew’s white board You could message him on X, he’s at @trader_mcaruso https://x.com/Trader_mcaruso Good morning all from New York! GM James from LA, Central Coast CA, Texas, NC and Canada! Good morning Webby! Hey Joe! Triple Witching Hour today Yes indeed GM AND HAPPY FRIDAY IBD LIVE CREW!! GM Mauro!! Happy Friday gm to all, what is the possibilities of three waves down?? That would be a big topic if the market decline becomes a real bear market. Good morning Hatman! Def a great time to look for stocks falling less than their peers, eh? Hope you’re building a nice watchlist Joe. https://www.investors.com/ibd-videos/videos/put-the-stock-market-crash-to-use-build-a-watchlist + https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/stock-market-correction-put-to-use-build-a-watchlist/ Good morning! GM Nicholas, thank you for joining us! Hi Mike. I often hear : the market never bottoms on a Friday. From your studies of the market , is that generally true? I’ve heard folks say that before…I don’t use things like that…I should do a formal study on it Cheech n Chong… ” hey man, is Dave here? ” 🌝 Covering for our new markets editor, Russ Britt. GM Billy! Joyful Friday to all! Spreading joy to you too Ron I’m liking Matt already – someone I know suggested yday to focus on RKT live answered What is quad witching day? Four times a year, stock options, index futures and index options all expire on the same time. So it’s really back to triple witching. Single-stock futures were included making it “quad” but those stopped trading in 2020. Is it still “quad” witching now that single stock futures are gone? Not really. It’s back to triple to my knowledge. Could we listen to the Matt Caruso? Webby is on 3 days a week and speaks all the time. Subscribers want to hear the weekly expert. Have a nice day Taylor What were Ali, Chris and Mike’s tickers? Chris HEI and Webby SPY. If I had to give some tickers, they would be DASH, SPOT and NFLX (I own tiny positions in those) Mike…what is the inverse spy and nasdaq that you mentioned? thx Currently I’m using SQQQ SPXS…but I also just short SPY/QQQ at times or use SH, etc.. Webby, when yesterday did you buy the inverse etf’s and what did you see then that caused you to enter the position? Thanks! Went heavier late in the day…lots of things…but not being able to take out the post Fed meeting highs was a big part of it Caruso enough macro! He’s done a great job blending the macro perspective with his technical analysis and growth style! Thanks. What signs would cause you to flip long today? Webby said a reversal for the indexes Mike – the voice of one doesn’t speak for us all. I really enjoy listening to what you have to say and the rambles on the weekend. Keep it up! Much appreciated Mark! Webby we Love you…ands you can talk all you want as far as I am concerned. That’s kind of you Leslie “Webby, say more. Matt, thanks for the macro, providing awareness!” I love listening to Matt, he’s a great dude Webby, Agree, really enjoy your in depth analysis. We need More of you! That’s kind of you brother ALI CORAM – IT SO GREAT THAT YOU DO YOUR MARKUPS -E.G. TRENDLINES SO HELPFUL FOR A PERSON WITHOUT MUCH EXPERIENCE – LIKE ME -TY MICHAEL You bet, Michael! Thanks for the feedback. how does Uber benefit from “self driving”? thks That’s one of their big initiatives — one day they say we won’t have Uber drivers, will be a driverless service. Webby – on the opposite side of the Taylor David comment – wish you had a separate daily show. Nothing against the rest of the IBD Live crew. I am talking about an added David…I’ve been doing a non-IBD podcast on the weekends… here’s my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@Webby5150 Mike, ASLE, ENVA? Thank you ASLE is under $10…I don’t trade those…and ENVA is under the 200 so I’ll avoid both for now I agree Webby 🙂 Here is a ticker for Webby to go over: PLYA (or any that have charts that look like this) — how do you interpret this kind of tight action — volume (I know you do not use volume) is still high. Dollar Volume is around 54M. You should check the news…looks like it’s being bought out…so I’ll be staying away look at the big picture Webby – there is no new catalyst to push up appreciably lower – there also isn’t a catalyst for a sustained push higher – this is a recipe for chop until external factors change or the market perceives them to have
changed. Frank…we are pretty much on the same page Hey Mike, what do you think about this Possible Death Cross approaching on the Nasdaq and NVDA ? Way too late of a signal IMO Mike, I like to use the 60 minute chart to at least see some higher highs and higher lows and breaking some sort of downward sloping trend line. I haven’t seen it yet on the indexes at least. Yep, that’s what I look for too Hi Webby! KWEB and other china names ? Out but watching to get back in Earlier this week Webby said a pullback to the 50 DMA is not the same as a fall to the 50 day. What is the distinction? Good question…if I see some examples I’ll go over them Ah, that makes sense. Thanks Webby … clearly points out how I am not good about checking the news 🙂 You are welcome Mike, thanks for your historical work. Thanks Jack! I always buy CD’s to support the artist(s) at live events! 🎶 😀🍻 I buy their t-shirts too…they get a huge cut on those Hey Mike, What are your thoughts on the Nasdaq and Nvda approaching the Death Cross on the Daily and Weekly Charts? NVDA looks very sick to me MUFG – Ed, did something happen in Japan? MUFG up 3.3% on +2830% volume. I don’t know. thank you all for helping us navigate this difficult market! i appreciate this show and also appreciate Webby’s youtube videos he’s been posting Thank you Taylor, much appreciated brother. All the best to you webbies the s__t Thanks brother Webby — New Chart School (Chart School Live) did u guys discussed new HTF or orthodox HTF? Thank you I had covid (BAD) the day we did that one…it’s a blur… I’m just not sure Gap downs always makes me pretty bearish. BABA has had 5 in less than a month. Keep in mind that BABA also trades in Hong Kong, so there are going to be “real” moves overnight that hit the stock. Hi Mike. Your thoughts on GLD action lately. Thanks. Feels like it can come down to its 21 and still look normal Webby re historical tax rates – very true but the code was riddled with deductions. These were largely discontinued in 1981 which removed the incentive for misallocation of capital to avoid taxes. Yep, Bill had us study those a bunch…so many changes over the decades webbie you know my buddv chris haick Very cool dude!!!!!!!!! I dig him Scott and Mark did a very nice presentation Wednesday and Mark was talking about he only buys out of a 2nd stage base. SPOT and NFLX both at 5th Stage base. Can Mike or others comment on any studies on 5th stage base. Thank you, Great show this week. Thanks to all. thanks Michael scott learned a lot on webinar great, good to hear “Matt Caruso is the very best IBD Live special guest. Please have him on as frequently as possible. ***Confession: I’m an aggressive investor and have a tendency to take on more exposure than is prudent. Webby, As a private pilot, your remark earlier resonated big-time. ‘Would you rather be in the market (or up in the air) wishing you were in cash (or on the ground)…. OR …. Would you rather be in cash (or on the ground) wishing you were in the market (or in the air)? Again, BRAVO!” live answered Matt are you holding any hedges now? He said earlier he prefers to hedge in a strong market like buying insurance. In this kind of market, he prefers to hold more cash and have light exposure overall i.e. in the 30% range or so until his portfolio and the market can make more
progress Thank you very much for adding ATR into Market Surge. Very helpful indeed. You are welcome…as you can tell its a HUGE part of how I look at things Thoughts on PLTR. Holding up well in a down market Holding up OK – but hitting resistance at the 50-day line. Matthew is the best, but I say that about all guests when they are on lol Lol we love them all! Love this deep fundamental look at LB from Matt! Good stuff! live answered Matt… I liked “its a handle with care” re: LB live answered Matt – if it’s shareable – what’s on the wall behind you. Looks interesting but fuzzy. They are WONDA charts I got years ago. Discontinued unfortunately. Chris – NKE any price where you would look at a swing trade. Ackman is long millions of shares, so you have activist on your team Thanks and Happy Friday. It would take a number of days for a swing trade to appear. But a stock stuck in such a long-term downtrend is rarely on my radar. made it a 20% play Wow. That’s a big position in this market. Matt, if you had to do it over again, would you seek the CFA? Absolutely. It gave me deep knowledge of finance and opens many doors Ali, What are your daily MA settings? Simple or Exponential? 21 exponential, rest are simple Ask Matt if he looks at the dollar; I bet he says yes, and compare his version on intermarket analysis vs. Mike focusing on price Tim, FWIW that’s just my style and a big part of it. I learned it from Bill as it was his style too. The dollar, bonds, etc… all are VIP but they flow into the price of the market indexes…keep it simple (as Bill did) Ali.. If you invested $10k in TSLA 5 years ago, how much would you have today? The only things I’ve held for 5+ years are broadly diversified mutual funds! For individual stocks, I’m an active trader and I use position trader hold/sell rules. I traded TSLA early Nov. to early Feb. for a profitable trade. Appreciate my calm and realistic Canadian bro. Matt. His Macro analysis is great during this type of environment. Our IBD family ….enjoy your weekend. You too, Sylvia! Ticket for lightening mode. HALO. Strong fundamentals and working on 10 out of 11 weeks up. RS new high ahead of price and near all time highs. Beach ball underwater maybe. Tia live answered the dollar relates to why gold is taking? Sometimes you see an inverse relationship between gold and the dollar. Thanks for covering IBIT ! live answered look at the 5 min So a day trade? Mike. there seems to be some confusion on the terms Macro-Analysis and Macro-economics , two different word meanings. You could probably explain better than me. I look at macro a lot…but its a huge topic…too much for the show when is Webby RSI going to be part of MarketSurge? Working on backend now…will take longer than I’d like…but we’ll get it in Webby, Thank you for detailed analysis. I always listen carefully when you are speaking. Love it. Thank you Bhupendra (very cool name by the way) Ali, your CELH is trying to make a come back. LOL I haven’t looked at that in forever!! Still a pass for me. Below a declining 200-day and very damaged I am pretty new to IBD live — Learning a lot. The discussion of why not to make a trade or why to wait is actually more informative than why to make the trade Love this! Thanks for your feedback! TGTX is a good one, just close out the trade for now live answered BSX and NTNX is on watch live answered I’ve been a LTH club member since 2006 and my sister is a trainer there. They are all in on the pickleball craze. live answered MIKE is the IPO base master! Thank you. Took me forever to invent the IPO base… for more on how I developed that…and a detailed study of GOOGL’s move from its IPO Base https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVPlGqphpYk&t=114s EVER live answered SPOT / DASH We reviewed earlier! Full disclosure I own them. Matt owns DASH and is watching SPOT. sndk live answered Ali, AVGO and ASML plz Not leaders. I want stocks at or above rising 50-day above 200-day ATRO live answered ATRO live answered GS live answered tigo? live answered Matt, Canadian Pipelines. TRP and ENB nice RS live answered ENB – Canadian gas distributor, for Matt, please live answered when Mike W. says ATR 6, is he referring to the value of ATR or ATR%? ATR %. We use that so we can compare stocks more easily. Matt, is TSLA all done? Very out of favor right now Chris, does AS still look likes it’s forming an “actual base’ compared to others that fell and are rising in wedgie action? live answered Mike, thanks for your comment on the dollar. I understand and just wanted to contrast approaches of yours vs. Mike. No judgment either way but so important with guests to see their contrasting styles. No worries at all brother…I’m in a TINY minority with my views on it yeah mike that’s my boy he’s the best accountant on earth 2 my trading mentor He’s cool and his wife is a very nice lady too…tell him Webby says…”where’s that pink cowboy hat” LOL he’ll get it Morning! Great show today, Matthew is awesome. When you all talk about having a small position in something like SPOT, curious what size that tends to be in percentage terms For me with the market in a vulnerable position, it’s 2.5% of my portfolio. Will increase if stock makes progress and if we get a follow-through day — but willing to back away if it triggers stops. final thought – for perspective look at XMAG, which is approximately the S&P 500 WITHOUT the Mag 7 – as I type this it’s FLAT for the year. That is amazing! Thanks for the ticker. Webby – how about adding to BABA before you sign off BABA is at the top of my watch list Matt is awesome. Thank you so much for your impressive insights – very thoughtful. live answered Webby Gordon Lightfoot — Alberta Bond! Right now…my day’s nickname when he was a runner was “Lightfoot” Did we give up on the count? No, just waiting on a follow-through day Further to what Mike is saying about one share: when you own it you watch it YEP AS agreed Chris! live answered Great weekend everyone! ! Matt was terrific – very thoughtful live answered Thanks Webby – have a great weekend Will try! thanks to all! and to all, a happy 4x op-ex 🥳 ! Matthew Caruso – What a great guest, really enjoyed today’s show! Matt is GREAT! Loved having him on today Thanks for a great show everyone, and special thanks to Matt, eh. live answered
