Johnson & Johnson has introduced a groundbreaking Canadian consensus paper aimed at addressing critical shortcomings in psoriasis care for individuals with skin of color. The initiative, developed by a diverse group of 16 dermatologists across the country, provides a structured set of recommendations intended to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and overall clinical management. The paper identifies key issues in psoriasis care such as underrepresentation in clinical research, challenges in differential diagnosis due to varied symptom presentation, and the need for culturally sensitive medical practices.
The consensus was developed using a modified Delphi methodology and highlights 24 statements covering terminology, clinical assessment, and treatment guidelines, with a focus on improving representation in research and expanding educational resources for healthcare providers.
Johnson & Johnson’s long-standing commitment to advancing dermatology and addressing health inequities is reflected in its support for the paper, as well as initiatives like the VISIBLE study, which aims to improve data collection across diverse populations.
