Novelis and DRT have entered into a strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of high-recycled-content alloys in aluminum beverage can ends. The collaboration is focused on enhancing manufacturing processes to facilitate the seamless integration of sustainable can ends across the global metal packaging industry.

By combining their technical expertise, the two companies aim to optimise the design, conversion processes, and environmental performance of beverage can ends manufactured from the same alloy as the can body—a “uni-alloy” design. This approach enables can ends to be produced with up to 99% recycled content, reducing their carbon footprint by more than 50 percent compared to conventional alternatives.

The joint objective is to establish a uni-alloy end that can be widely adopted throughout the global aluminum beverage can market. This innovation represents a significant step toward reducing resource consumption, enhancing recycling efficiency, and advancing circular economy principles in metal packaging.
